His Love Held Him There

One among my favourite Christian singers is the troubadour Michael Card. One tune particularly,Why?”, brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. He sings that nobody needed to nail Jesus to the cross as a result of His love would have held Him there. Wow!

Are you able to image that? Every time we bow and confess earlier than Him, we are able to see Him there, compelled by love, taking punishment on for us. Each time we predict we aren’t adequate to unfold the reality about Him, His love hangs there to strengthen and proper us. These days after we doubt ourselves, His arms keep stretched on the picket beams so He can draw us to Himself.

John 15:13 states, “Larger love has nobody than this: to put down one’s life for one’s mates.” Jesus’ demonstration of affection goes far past that measuring stick. His love held Him on the cross till His final breath, when even His Father turned away as He took on our sins. He might have crawled down. He might have saved Himself from that excruciating dying. As an alternative, within the final act of affection, He hung there and saved you and me as an alternative.

Dearest Lord, how can we fathom the depth and breadth of Your love for us? Thanks You for selecting to hold on the cross for my sake. Train me the best way to go deeper in my love for You and others in response. Amen.
