My zeal has consumed me,
As a result of my adversaries have forgotten Your phrases.
Psalm 119:139 (NASB)
On this Lord’s day verse from David we learn of his zeal for God and His Phrase. Zeal is an excessive ardour which is seen by others, and certain impacts the connection of the believer with others – that is what David is talking of in immediately’s verse.
David’s zeal for God made for uncomfortable relationships, to the purpose that sinners in his firm grew to become his enemy – his Godliness shone a light-weight on their darkness, shaming them. The sins of such people was an offence to God and to David; when somebody speaks evil in opposition to ones beloved (particularly whether it is our Father God), it stirs righteous anger.
The depth of sinning could be such that not solely do they flip away from God, however additionally they overlook the righteousness of God and His Holy Phrase. It was a thriller to David, and to us too, how can somebody who knew God’s Phrase flip away after which overlook it? We see this immediately in church brethren who’ve drifted into false instructing, being blinded to the Fact in God’s Phrase.
Expensive Reader, do you’ve holy zeal for God’s Phrase? Does your coronary heart bristle when others converse evil of, or misquote it, saying untruths in regards to the God the Creator of it? When David says his “zeal has consumed me,” the phrase consumed speaks of a zeal that drives a wedge between the righteous and unrighteous – holy separation. It raises an essential query for us; are we consumed by zeal when God is blasphemed or misrepresented in our firm – feeling the holy separation deep in our coronary heart? If not, we’ve an issue and want to attract nearer to our Lord.
